A Book Review of Scott Bartlett's Royal Flush
Scott Bartlett's "Royal Flush" certainly is a brilliant work of fiction.
It is very funny, a few of the character's are either dripping with sarcasm, or they are unbelievably stupid. The stupid ones are the most interesting, especially the King of Spades.
" The King studied the bespectacled man for a long time. 'You want me,' he said finally. 'to execute an entire people?'" Then later, "'I see. Would you like them beheaded or hanged?'" The King, simply because he has the power, will kill or maim people for his own benefit. Obviously he is a tyrant.
One character in the book who just so happens to be the King, is absolutely clueless and his advisor takes his place on the throne. The King's interactions with commoners is also a source of amusement. Mostly because he knows nothing at all about their lives and because of this, he is a pathetic ruler.
The happenings in this book, although they are fictitious, mirror real life happenings. The king is something like politicians in our own government, out for themselves rather than the benefit of society as a whole. Of course, not all politicians are like this. Only some are truly tyrannical and power hungry as the King in this novel.
Of course, the King's cluelessness adds a comedic note. "Clouds obscured that, too. This was irksome. He had never been faced with a problem he couldn't have excecuted." For the King he is so used to having others face his problems for him, he does not even know how to tackle one on his own. He is like an elementary school bully, just used to getting his way by exploiting others.
Also, because of his stupidity, he is convinced by the Wisest Man Alive that he must attend an event wearing a dress in order to catch his love interests attention.
This book is highly amusing and has some very interesting characters as well. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great fictional read.

4. Write books
5. Fall in love and get married
6. Have/adopt child
7. Get my degree

10. Meet the man who saved my life ( David Colbere???)
11. Learn to paint

These things do not have to be accomplished in any particular order. Just all before I "kick the bucket", you know?
Ha!

Oh my gosh, the sun!
I'm sorry but it was actually out all day today and I found that super impressive.
I love the sun. I love the heat and vitamin C that it provides.
I love that it makes the sky all clear so you can lie in the grass and pretend that the clouds are animals with your little sister and brother.
I love that it heats things up and makes things more bearable. (I can't stand the cold!)
I love that it makes everything around all bright and new looking, while at the same time, it relaxes you and is super awesome for outdoor activities.
While lying in the grass you can imagine you are on a sunny beach far away from NL. Or wherever you are.
In the meantime, I am here in Newfoundland and mark my words: There will not be a single sunny day all summer that I spend inside. Not a single one.

Yoga @ the Works
Went to my first yoga class at the Works this morning. I have a few comments about it:
1. The instructor was great! She really pushed me and I already feel a nice bit more flexible.
2. Other people in my class were all great and very friendly.
3. My siblings had to come along with me and take the bus home with me and they were very well behaved.
4. I hope to go next week again since I really want to improve and get more flexible.
That is it for now, but perhaps I will write some poetry later about working out. Yes, I can do that.
Also, I hope to finish February in the next couple of days and then I can write a book review. Yay!!
I know. I'm a bookworm. But it is okay. I have accepted this as my fate.
Should have been a librarian.

Flounder
My word of the day is Flounder and for some reason it reminds me of the fish in the Little Mermaid.
Probably because his name was Flounder. Ha! Anyway it's actual meaning is:
1. to struggle clumsily or helplessly: He floundered helplessly on the first day of his new job.
That is, according to Dictionary.com.
For some reason this word perfectly describes every first date I have ever been on. Ha! Tyler you are not alone. Maybe it's a family thing.
;)
Also watching a Boston Bombing victim on CTV. Wow! Talk about inspirational, she is absolutely beautiful.

Happy
Got my Tegan and Sara tickets in the mail today and I am like, YESSS!!! Finally!!!
I am so über excited for this concert!
I can't wait.
In the meantime however I am planning on doing other things to keep myself busy like baking chocolate cookies and reading.
Plus I am spending time with my siblings, playing video games and stuff like that. Just because they are awesome and I love them.
Going shopping with a friend of mine on Saturday and totally looking forward to that.

EXAMS.... Blah.
I hate exams.
I don't like using that term but what can I say??? Exams are special.
Ha. Preparing for final exams is actually painful for me since I'm stressing twice as much and my memory is five times as poor.
Not to mention that my exams are one day after the other. That kind of sucks too.
At least I only have two right? Then...... Summer. Relaxation. Calm and serenity. Yoga. Possible lying on a sunny beach somewhere and tanning. Mmmm.... Warm.
Just like that I am relaxed and perhaps after lunch I can get back to studying.
Perhaps. Maybe. Conceivably.
:)

My future...?
Sometimes I wonder if I have a future at all.
I was literally running through the Munnels today and suddenly I thought something awful...
Will people want to read my books? Or am I going to be getting stuff published simply for the joy of it? Damn. I think I have some interesting stories to tell but is that really what's important?
The answer: no. What is important is that a publisher enjoy my writing so that I can get my writing published and then I will have accomplished one life goal.
Here's to me getting, "My Survival Story." Published. And much more after that.

Writing, writing, writing
I have to do a ton of writing this weekend. A bit of reading too but not as much.
Oh well. I'm going to get it done early and get it out of the way. Then I can enjoy my weekend and who knows?? Perhaps I will get some pleasurable writing done.
Pleasurable writing for me is working on my novel. Or poetry.
And who knows? Perhaps I can fit in a date somewhere in there.
Is this being too hopeful? I certainly hope not. Accomplishing these things this weekend would make me very happy indeed. ;)

Getting a job....
Yep, I kind of want to make my own money, you know?
I'm hoping to get on at the library. When I go to the library this weekend to study I'm going to check it out and see if they are currently looking for any students to fill part time jobs around there. You know, stacking shelves and stuff.
I've always loved libraries so it should be fairly easy for me.
Wish me luck!!

Midterm exams, research papers , and Zzzzzzz's
So I'm really busy with school work. Thank goodness my reading speed has improved significantly!
I need to write a research paper for next week and do a ton of reading. All while managing somehow to remain happy and positive. Well, I love writing and reading do this shouldn't be too hard right?
Perhaps I should just become a life-long student. Couldn't hurt. Ha!
I'll be getting the money for tuition from???? And that, my friends, is the million dollar question. Should've just been a teacher and then I could have taken summer courses. Oh well. One of these days I will graduate and when I do?? BIG, MASSIVE party at my house where everyone is required to dance.
Yes Sam, even you.
;)
Forgot to mention, I'm very tired today for some strange reason.............. Hmmm....

Writing
I am not able to sleep because I can't turn off my brain. Thoughts just racing through there at lightening speed.
So I am writing.
One day I am going to finish writing this monster of a novel I am currently working on and when I do... BIG sigh.... Finally.
Then I will start work on the next one. And the next one. And the next one.......
The neverending saga.....
Too bad it makes me so damn happy. This is a brutal way to make a living for a disabled individual.

"Con fuzzled."
When my sister was younger she would often look at me when I was concentrating hard on something and say that I looked, "confuzzled" aka confused. Just now she said I looked confused and I remembered that. God, she was soooooo adorable as a little kid. Now she is growing taller and taller every single day and I am afraid she will be taller than me. Oh well. She should be around normal height then.
My brother was usually just disagreeable with everything but I guess that's just a guy thing. Ha!
Those are my thoughts for today. Plain and simple.

Reading over and over until it sinks in
Reading any course material for me is twice as hard. Why?
1. Stuff doesn't stick and I have to read over and over again. Repetition is key!
2. Often times I have trouble distinguishing what is truly important and what is just background information.
3. My mind wanders to other things, (such as writing in this blog!) and it is hard to move it!
4. Sometimes I get bored with the course material. Oh well.
So what should I do? Probably remove myself from any distractions, right?
Yeah. Good luck with that Morgan.

Studying on a Saturday
My thought today is, why is it so hard to study on a Saturday? What it is it about this day in particular that just makes you want to laze around in your pajamas all day long?
Thank goodness I came to my senses and actually got a shower. I never would have started studying.
Honestly though, I think that our weekdays are just so rushed that by the time the weekend comes we are all like "Zzzzz...." I love writing but unfortunately I'm all wrote out after writing a paper for my Sociology class last week. Here's hoping for an "A?
This coming week I am writing for our student newspaper "the Muse" again...
Stay tuned for details....
Peace out! ;)
